Love Your Clothes: Tips to Take Care of Your Spring Wardrobe

We’re not even halfway through winter, but most of us are already dreaming of spring. Sometimes it helps to get ahead on our spring planning. Get a few tips to take better care of your spring wardrobe and explore new LTD apparel additions.

Love Your Clothes: Tips to Take Better Care of Your Spring Wardrobe

Create An Efficient Closet

When we think of extending the life of our clothes, we rarely consider the place where they spend the most time–the closet. Whether on hangers, in drawers or atop shelves, the way we store our clothes can have a major impact on their longevity. Make sure every article of clothing is hanging on the proper type of hanger, that drawers and shelves are clean, fresh and free of dust, and that the closet itself has access to fresh air.

Rethink Your Laundry Room

Aside from the closet, the laundry room is where your clothes spend most of their time. It’s easy to forget the basics or cut corners when we’re washing, drying, folding and ironing our clothes, especially if we’re doing the job for the entire family. If you haven’t in awhile, consider updating everyday items like hampers or totes, laundry bags or old ironing boards, and never forget to thoroughly clean your washer and dryer regularly.

Invest In Quality Clothes

No clothes will last forever, and the lives of most clothes can be extended if we care for them properly, but the entire process is so much easier if we invest in quality clothes the first time. It’s better to splurge on the elegant dress you’ve had your eye on that will last several years rather than having to update every year. However, you don’t have to spend a fortune to have quality clothes, like these new spring looks from LTD.

Style for Every Season

It takes some time to build our wardrobes. For many years, those of us aspiring to do so have to get by with what we have, exposing our favorite outfits to more wear and tear over time. Even though it can be hard to tell, there is a difference between having too many clothes and having the right amount of clothes for each season. Build your spring wardrobe this season, and look forward to warm weather with summery options.

Spring Spirit: Garden DIY Walkway Ideas

Working with wheelbarrow in the gardenWith spring heading our way, we’re looking for different ideas to help make our gardens one-of-a-kind. The plants and flowers are easy, but creating a garden experience is what we’re after now. A DIY garden walkway is one way we can make our garden more user-friendly. Here are 5 garden DIY walkway ideas we think you might like.

Wooden Walkway Wooden pallets can be upcycled into many useful items around the house. In the garden, a dismantled pallet gives you the slabs to lay down for a flat and sturdy path. You don’t have to be a master woodworker, but you should know how to use a saw at the very least. The wood can be cut so it’s all a uniform length or you can get creative and stagger planks at different lengths to give it a unique style.

Timber Traipsing
Laying down little slices of wood can turn an unused bit of land into an adorable path. Celebration Generation takes you through each step of the process — clearing out the space, lining it properly and then placing each of the slices of wood along the path. It actually looks nice as a regular dirt path, but the wood makes it look classy.

Uncommon Concrete DIY stepping stones are surprisingly easy to make. You can use just about anything as a mold for your ready-to-mix concrete. A cake pan, pizza box, shoe box — you can make it any shape you want and you can make it as fancy as you want, too! Break old dishes to make a mosaic or use glass craft beads to add color and character. The hardest part about making the stones yourself is waiting for the concrete to dry.
wine-bottle-wayWine Bottle Way
Upcycling wine bottles to make a path is one of the more popular ways to add character to your garden. VertAustin does a quick tutorial on using wine bottles as garden edging, but the idea could easily be expanded to line a garden path. If you’re good at cutting glass, the bottoms of wine bottles can also be transformed into tiles to smoothe out a dirt path.

Passage of Pop Bottle Caps A more labor-intensive way to give your garden walkway character is to apply bottle caps (plastic or metal work) to the tiling idea. It would take quite a while to collect them and lay them all out, but if bottle caps are something you happen to set aside for no good reason, this may be a way to put them to good use.

However you decide to build your garden, LTD Commodities has more products and ideas to make your garden just right. From garden stakes to bird feeders, we have what you need to make your garden brighter.

Plant a Flower Day: Easy Flowers to Grow

March 12 is Plant a Flower Day — and just in time! It’s still a little early, but you can see a lot of little flowers sprouting already! But even if you’re in a part of the country where the ground is too cold for planting, you can start your planting indoors. Either way, we put together a list of easy flowers to grow in the spirit of Plant a Flower Day.Nigella flower

Nigella Nigella flowers are also known as Love in a Mist, which, you will see when they bloom, is an appropriate title. They’re cute little blue flowers framed by whispy fronds similar to fennel. They’re also hardy plants, so they will be around quite a while after you plant them. Their flowering time is relatively short, but when they’re not blooming they have great seed pods that are great filler for dried flower arrangements.Coltivazione di girasoli in un campo umbro

Sunflowers Sunflowers One of the most impressive flowers to grow from seeds is the the sunflower. They’re generally drought tolerant but require a lot of direct sunlight. They also grow to be quite tall — some can reach heights of 16 feet — so they’ll need plenty of space when they’re transferred to their outdoor home.Ehrenpreis / Veronica

Veronica Veronica Veronica seeds love sunny spots and can grow well in many types of soil. They bloom all summer long making them a favorite for birds, bees and butterflies! The average germination time is two to four weeks, so right now is a good time to start those inside. By the time it’s shorts weather, you’ll have beautiful blue blossoms in your garden.Natural Sweet Pea

Sweet Pea Sweet Peas Sweet peas are great because they germinate fast and they bloom early so you can get a little instant gratification in your garden as soon as the sun starts shining. They grow best in cooler temperatures, so you want to start them as early as possible before they shy away from the heat of the summer. They also need a trellis to climb.Gaillardia or blanket flowers and wasp visit flowers to obtain nectar

Blanket Flowers Blanket Flower Blanket flowers have a faint resemblance to daisies — they can add sweetness to any garden. They’re native to Mexico which means they like loose, sandy soil and, after a moist germination period, they like a dry, hot, sunny climate which means they’re drought-tolerant. They also bloom all summer long so you’re guaranteed constant color in your garden.Columbine flowerColumbine Columbine Columbine are easy to grow, but they’re not made for every climate. They thrive in cooler environments with a lot of sunlight — which is probably why it’s Colorado’s state flower. They can grow in warmer climates, but it’s best to plant them in spots with a little bit of shade so they don’t get too hot.

8 Things to Pass the Last Week of February

Spring is so close we can almost smell it! We’re pretty excited about the season change, but there are still a few days left of February to endure — but it doesn’t have to be all that bad. Here are 8 things to pass the last week of February to get you to spring.Running

  1. Shape Up with Purpose. Now’s a great time to start training for that May run you’ve been waffling about signing up for. Organized runs don’t have to be marathons to help you get back into shape after being stuck inside all winter. If you’re new to running, start with a 5k and work your way up to a 10k and a half-marathon.
  2. Binge. Pretty soon the weather is going to be too nice to sit inside and watch your favorite TV shows. Now’s your chance to get it all in before you get to trade it for sunshine and flowers!  You have just enough time to watch an entire season  of a show — or more than one, depending on how efficient you are with TV-watching.
  3. Purge. Retailers are making room for spring fashion and so should you! Get rid of your ratty sweaters to make space for that new maxi skirt or a cardigan in fun spring colors.build-a-fort
  4. Forts of Strength. If there’s still snow on the ground, make your hail mary pass to win over your kids by building a snow fort! You won’t have many more photo opportunities with the white stuff, so get ‘em in while you can! If all the snow is melted, you can still make forts — they just have to be indoors. But there are plenty of fun photos you can take with piles of pillows.
  5. Literature Launch. If you haven’t taken the time yet to feed your mind this winter, now’s the time to start a new book! Get cozy on the couch with a throw and some pillows to while away the last of the chilly afternoons.
  6. Tickle Your Brain. Pull out those models and puzzles the family got for Christmas and start putting them together. It’s a good way to exercise your brain and bond with the kids while you’re stuck inside this week. Make the deadline to finish March 1 — by then, the kids might be able to play outside.ltd-games
  7. Cold Pursuit. If your kids are itching to get outside, set up a simple scavenger hunt with a spring theme. Have them look for signs of season change as they run around the block. If it’s too cold for outdoor sleuthing, take the hunt inside and save the outdoor game for a spring day.
  8. Winter Rivalry. Have one last family game night to close out winter! It won’t be long before you have to trade in your game cards for a tiki torch at your next cookout. To mix things up, play a game you haven’t tried yet — it makes things interesting for a night of family feuding!

LTD Commodities has ideas and products to make every season a little more fun! Whether you need ideas for a winter game night, or you’re looking for water toys for a little outdoor fun, look to LTD for unique products at unbeatable prices.

Upcycled Garden: Ideas to Get You Excited to Dig

container-gardenSpring is almost here and that means it’s almost time to start digging in your garden! Gardening is an uber-hobby. That means it can combine elements of other hobbies: art, DIY, decor, cooking, and upcycling. While we know lots of ways to make our lives easier and less expensive by upcycling and repurposing unwanted items, upcycling in the garden makes your yard one-of-a-kind. Here are 5 garden upcycling ideas to get you excited to dig.

Dangling Delight Bring your garden up to eye-level with hanging container gardens! An old birdcage or a hat that’s too pretty to pitch in the garbage can be hung with a simple hook to suspend draping flowers like geraniums or fuchsia. On your porch or deck it gives your outdoor decor a little color and a lot of character. While hanging plants look great, you may want to keep your watering can at the ready — they tend to dry out a bit quicker than plants in regular containers because they’re more exposed to air.

terrariumTerrarium Training Curating a terrarium is a good starter container garden. Glass containers are easy to come by to create cute terrariums if you’re not quite ready to build a full container garden. Indoors or outdoors, old vases, pickle jars or pitchers can hold the layers of charcoal, sand and soil as a base for tiny trees, ferns and grass. Terrariums require minimal maintenance, it’s just a matter or trimming and watering to keep them green.

Tried & True Tomatoes The container garden-friendly tomato makes a practical plant for the decorative garden. They work best in larger containers — hanging from an old bucket or watering can, they can draw eyes up rather than to the ground to keep your outdoor decor lively and interesting. Just remember tomato plants require soil with a lot of nutrients to make your tomatoes flavorful and juicy. They also need full sun for a majority of the day, so a hanging container that you can move with the sun is an excellent way to add fresh ingredients to your summer salads.

Flower Flow Flowers can dress up just about any kind of container — even an ugly old shoe! Take inventory of the containers that are still useful but might be too worn to be used for their aesthetic value. An old suitcase that might be too heavy to travel with, an old desk drawer (or an old desk!), or a child’s wagon can be quite beautiful with the right flowers flowing from their openings. Look for colorful flowers that tend to sprawl like calibrachoa to bring your old but cherished items back to life with elegant overgrowth.

herb-gardenSimple Seasonings Herb gardens are probably the easiest gardens to build using repurposed items around the house. They can be big displays using wooden pallets or they can be small enough to fit inside your kitchen. They’re good for small containers because their roots don’t spread the way the roots for tomato plants or carrots do. Use mason jars, tea tins, mismatched coffee cups, or coffee cans. With a good combination of potting soil, compost, and sand (or perlite) and your herbs should thrive indoors. For an outdoor herb garden, think a little bigger. You can use wooden wine boxes carefully stacked at different angles to create a small vertical herb garden or you can use an over-the-door organizers to cover a blank wall and give it a little color and a lot of life!

LTD Commodities has hundreds of items to get your home ready for spring — indoors and outdoors! Whether you’re curating and indoor container garden for your kitchen window or you’re dressing up your walkway, look to LTD for a happy garden!
