9 Things to Do Before the First Day of Fall
Though we are beyond Labor Day, we still have a few days left of summer — and at LTD, we’re not quite ready to let go of it yet! We need one last hurrah for our favorite season so we came up with a last-minute bucket list to enjoy it. Here are 9 things to do before the first day of fall.
Take a Nap in a Backyard Hammock There are only a few days in the year that you can sit outside and enjoy the sunshine — why not take it in while you nap? Everyone deserves a break, you may as well take it in a hammock while it’s nice outside.
Eat Ice Cream Soon it’s going to be way too cold to even think about putting ice in your soda, let alone eat a bowl of frozen goodness. Make sure you get your fill of your favorite ice cream before the temperature starts to drop! If you’re really ambitious, make ice cream. Check out Smart Savvy Living’s recipe to make ice cream without an ice cream maker.
Relax at a Beer Garden Though beer gardens are where they celebrate Oktoberfest, it’s not always realistic to sit outside and drink beer in the fall. For the brave, it’s fine, but for others, sipping on a cold beer outside can only happen when it’s warm outside.
Go To a Baseball Game The baseball season is so long we take for granted that there are so many games and forget to go. There are few experiences that make summer special more than hearing the crack of the bat and enjoying a hot dog at a ballpark. Do it while you still can!
Canoe/Kayak/Tubing Did you forget to have your lake/river adventure over the summer? If you did, it’s not too late! But it will be very soon… pack up the car or sign up for a tour and get in the water before it’s too cold to dip your toes in it!
Have a Cookout If you didn’t grill quite as much as you’d like to this year, now’s the time to light that fire! It just so happens that September 18 is National Cheeseburger Day, so if you want to knock out two birds with one stone, this is your chance.
Watch the Sunrise Though it’s not as difficult to watch the sun rise in the winter because it rises later, it’s rarely as spectacular or meaningful as being able to do it when the air is still warm and it’s comfortable to be outside in the early morning. If you haven’t done it yet, find the best spot in your city to watch the world wake up.
Pick Flowers The last of the summer blossoms are fading quickly! Pick them while they’re still full and colorful (from your own garden, of course). Dry them or press them and save them for fun winter craft projects to pass and brighten the cold days ahead.
Get a Game of Kickball Going Kickball is a game that just about anyone can play — it doesn’t require a lot of athletic agility or skill — so it shouldn’t take too much coaxing to get your family and friends together to spend one of your last sunny weekends outside!
