Halloween: Most Popular Costumes Predicted

halloweenWith Halloween just a few weeks away, people are starting to panic about coming up with the most clever, spectacular, weird, and scary costumes (read: no hobos, witches or ghosts!). Last year, according to Yahoo! the most searched costumes fall under the category of warrior: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, pirates, superheroes, Star Wars. But this year might be a little different. Maybe. According to Pinterest’s list of most popular costumes, this is what you can expect to see out trick-or-treating this year.

Let the Force Be with You Not surprisingly, with the release of the new Star Wars movie in December, people are trying to come up with ideas to pay respect to the film franchise on Halloween. You may see a few more Princess Leias, Lukes and Yodas, but there’s a chance someone comes up with a costume for the new characters to be introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Livin’ in the ‘90s Noodle-headed Justin Timberlake, Puffy & J. Lo (in THE green Versace dress, of course), Jordan Catalano — they’re all people you might run into on October 31. Yes, it’s exactly what you think it means: people are looking for ways to re-live the 1990s on Halloween. That decade was packed with pop culture icons — let’s hope for something impossibly original. Six from Blossom, perhaps? Or how about Paulie Shore from Biodome? Maybe Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer? There are so many possibilities.

The Power of Inclusion You can’t really go wrong with group costumes. Pac Man by himself is fun; Pac Man and all of his ghosts is a party! There’s so much room for creativity with group costumes — Orange is the New Black, The Incredibles, a herd of My Little Ponies, The Seven Dwarves. You and your group can come up with something clever without putting too much thought into it,  but if you want to put thought into it, a good pun is always a hit.

superman-pajamasThe Power of Heroes If you had a superpower, what would you want it to be? In real life, it’s a hypothetical question, but on Halloween, you can have any power you want — as long as you dress the part of a superhero. Bat Girl, Superman, Thor — they all can give you the illusion that you have a superpower for one night. If you want to be super-clever, add a twist. For example, if you have two boys who both want to be Batman, let them both be Batman –only two different versions of Batman.

Despicable Costumes There are dozens of characters in Despicable Me, but it seems being a Minion is the only choice for a costume. That’s good, because it’s a super easy costume to throw together at the last minute (if you’re a procrastinator). All you need is a pair of overalls (or jeans and suspenders), a yellow shirt and goggles. If you want to put effort into it, you can always make a paper mache head and paint it yellow.

Disney certainly makes it tempting to fantasize about talking to animals, having the ability to create ice and snow or being able to swim with fish near the bottom of the sea. Though we all can’t be princesses, we can pretend for just one night by wearing big, flowing dresses and crowns.
